Who we are
LetterUnmix is run by Prompt Media, Drachten, the Netherlands, Chamber of Commerce (KvK) number 01086975, VAT number NL001429868B57. We are the controller for the personal data described on this page.
Questions about privacy can be sent through the contact form or by email to contact form.
What you type stays in your browser
The word list is downloaded once and the search runs in your browser. The letters, patterns and filters you type are not sent to our server, not logged and not stored by us. We cannot see what you search for.
What our server receives
Like any website, our web server receives technical data when your browser requests a page or file: your IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the page you came from (if your browser sends it) and your browser and device type. This ends up in the server's log files.
We use this to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix errors. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website. Log files are kept for a limited time and then deleted. We do not use them to identify visitors.
Visitor statistics
We count visits with BasicWebStats, an analytics service run by Prompt Media on its own servers. It records which pages are viewed, the referring site, the type of browser and device, and the country. It does not store IP addresses.
To recognise a returning browser, it stores a random number in your browser. This number is not derived from your IP address and is not linked to your name or any other personal detail. The data is not shared with other companies or used for advertising.
We use these figures to see which tools and languages are used and to improve the site. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used.
Contact form and email
If you use the contact form or email us, we receive what you send: your name, email address, country, subject, message and, if you fill it in, your phone number. We use this only to answer you. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering your question. We keep messages no longer than needed to deal with your question.
The form is sent to us as an email through SMTP2GO, an email delivery service that handles it on our behalf. To limit abuse, the form briefly keeps a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address, for at most a few hours, to count how many messages are sent.
Donations
If you choose to donate, you are sent to a payment page of Mollie B.V., which processes the payment under its own privacy policy. We receive the details Mollie passes on about the payment, such as the amount, the date and the name on the payment. We keep these for our administration for as long as the law requires. The legal basis is our legal obligation to keep financial records.
Data stored on your device
The site stores small settings in your browser: your choice of light or dark theme (local storage), whether you dismissed the language suggestion or the donation note (session and local storage) and, if you answer the cookie banner, your choice about advertising cookies (a cookie called lu-consent that lasts 90 days). The random number used for the visitor statistics (see above) is also stored in your browser.
This data stays on your device; apart from the statistics number, it is never sent to us. You can remove it at any time through your browser settings.
Advertising and cookies
This site is paid for by advertising and affiliate links. We use Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, measure them and, if you agree, personalise them. They receive technical data such as your IP address and the page you are viewing.
Ads are only loaded after you have given consent in our cookie banner, which asks every visitor. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time through the cookie settings link in the footer. If you decline, Google's ad code is not loaded at all. Because our banner is not a Google-certified consent platform, visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland may see non-personalised or limited ads, which use less data.
Google decides for itself how it uses the data it collects through its ads and is responsible for that. See how Google uses data from sites that use its services. You can also manage personalised ads at Google Ad Settings, youronlinechoices.com or aboutads.info.
Some links on this site may be affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may receive a commission, at no extra cost to you. The website you go to may place its own cookies; its own privacy policy applies there.
Sharing
We do not sell personal data. Our hosting provider processes the data of our web server on our behalf, and SMTP2GO delivers the emails sent through the contact form. Other companies only receive data in the situations described on this page.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To use these rights, use the contact form or email contact form.
If you are not happy with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or with the authority in your own country.
Children
LetterUnmix is a general word game helper and is not aimed at children. There are no accounts, so the only way to give us personal data directly is the contact form or email. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you think a child has sent us personal data, tell us through the contact form and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we publish the new version on this page and update the date at the top. If we start using new kinds of data or advertising, we will update this page first.
