What it does
LetterUnmix has two tools. The word unscrambler takes the letters you have and lists every word in its word list that can be made from them, longest first. The crossword and pattern solver finds words that fit a pattern such as s__rt, where each underscore stands for one unknown letter.
Both are meant for the moments when you are stuck: a rack in Scrabble or Wordfeud that does not seem to make a word, a crossword clue with a few letters filled in, or a Wordle-style puzzle where you want to see what is still possible.
How it works
The word lists are downloaded to your browser once and the search runs on your own device. The letters you type are not sent to our server, and nothing is looked up in a database. That is also why results appear while you type.
The lists come from open sources: spelling dictionaries and word collections that are free to use. The word lists explained page says which ones, and the sources and licences page gives the exact versions and licence texts.
Who makes it
LetterUnmix is made and maintained by Prompt Media in Drachten, the Netherlands. It is a small, independent project and you do not need an account. The goal is a page that does one job quickly and without clutter.
How it is paid for
The tool is free. The costs are covered by advertising, which is only loaded after you have agreed to it in the cookie banner, and by voluntary donations. If you use an ad blocker that is fine: the tools work exactly the same. Details about cookies and data are in the privacy statement.
